Course & Subject Guides

Digital Media Lab - Greensburg Campus

This guide highlights color and poster printing at the library and best practices for poster creation and presentation.
  • White space between elements can help make your poster easier to follow. The links below provide more information on best layout practices.
  • Please use the highest resolution images available. What looks good on a page or screen may be pixelated when expanded to full poster size.
  • Insert images as files instead of copying and pasting them to preserve image quality.
  • Use graphs or charts to present results instead of tables if possible. Tables have less visual appeal. Graphs make data patterns or observations for your conclusion more obvious.
  • If you use any images that you do not own -- such as photographs you did not take or graphs/charts you did not create -- you must follow the copyright status and requirements for use of those images.
  • For images and information you've obtained from others, be sure to give appropriate credit to your sources.

Check your entire poster. Review:

  • spelling and grammar
  • authors' names and contact information
  • captions and labels
  • computations
  • citations
  • quality or resolution of images
  • dimensions - does the document height and width match requirements?
  • know when and where to display your poster
  • know what materials are being provided and what you have to bring
  • consider bringing backup pins, tape, etc. in case you or another presenter need them
  • prepare any handouts or a QR code you will share with visitors
  • bring an envelope to collect colleagues' business cards
  • practice your presentation
  • take a copy of your poster on a flash drive in case of an emergency
  • know when the poster must be removed
