Census Maps at the Hillman Library

Census maps are useful for locating census tracts, block groups and blocks for which Census data is available.

The Library has print and microfiche copies of many census maps going back to 1910. Paper versions of census maps for the city of Pittsburgh for the 1990 and 2000 censuses are kept with the print Census documents on the Hillman Library ground floor. Earlier Pittsburgh metropolitan area census maps are shelved with depository maps at the Thomas Blvd Library under the call number C 3.223:. Census Geographic Products and Reference

(Pitt users only) Social Explorer is mainly an interactive map of demographic information drawn from the US Census. Users can examine geographic areas while selecting the type of data to be shown, such as population density or income level. Note: Creation of a Personal Account is required to fully access all Social Explorer features.

Census Tract Reference Maps
These county-based reference maps show and label the census tracts as delineated to support 2010 Census data dissemination. These maps also show the boundaries and names of American Indian areas, Alaska Native areas, Hawaiian home lands, states, counties, county subdivisions, and places. Additionally, these maps display a base feature network including roads, railroads, and water bodies
Metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas
These statistical areas are the most frequently used for studying cities and urban areas. Current and historical definitions, maps and lists.
Census Atlas of the United States
The Census Atlas is a large-format publication about 300 pages long and containing almost 800 maps.
