Borrowing Books:

The ULS is one of the top 25 academic libraries in the United States, and we have over 7 million books in our collection for you to use. To check out books and other materials from the library, you will use your Pitt ID.

Both undergraduate and graduate students my check out an unlimited number of books for one academic year. For more detailed information, please refer to Length of Loans & Fines.

• Please note that all course reserve materials, EZBorrow and ILL apply to different policies.
• Loan period may be shorten when items are being recalled.
• You can always see what you have checked out by managing your library account online

Borrowing Journals:

You cannot check out entire journals from the library. Instead, use PittCat, the library catalog, to find full-text journal articles.

Borrowing Multi-media Items:

• Stark Media Services (Film & Audio Collection) Located in Hillman Library, Stark Media Services houses film, video, and audio collections:
  • Film and Video: The film and video collection primarily supports classroom instruction across disciplines with an emphasis on Film Studies
  • The film and video collection is a primarily non-circulating
  • Films and videos may be previewed in the Media Services during regular hours of operation

Borrowing Devices & Equipment:

• You can borrow laptops and noise isolating headhpones, at the Hillman circulation desk
• You can borrow cameras and audio recording kits from the Equipment Lending Room in Hillman Library.

To get to My Account, log in to PittCat using the Sign In menu in the upper right corner.  Once you log in, you will be at the Overview page.  You can access several services using the headings at the top of the Overview page:

• Loans lists you what you have borrowed and when those items are due back to the library.  You can renew any item by selecting that item and then clicking on the RENEW button for that item.
• Requests lists any library material requests you have made.
• Fines + Fees lists any fines or fees you have incurred.  You can use the Pay Fine link to pay your fines online.
• Blocks + Messages details
• Personal Details lists library account information like your home address or contact information.
