Collaborative Resources

A Bibligraphy of Diversity & Equity Music Resources

This is a collaborative public-facing bibliography of resources focusing on diversity, equity, and antiracist pedagogy in music. Curated by Anna Kijas, Music Librarian at Tufts University.

Composers of Color Resource Project

This webpage houses resources for music by composers of color. It is not intended to be limited to (a) “traditional” music theory topics or (b) notated music in the Western art music tradition. Analytical notes are being made available, while a Google Sheet summarizes music theory topics that can be taught using the repertoire. We welcome submissions of annotated scores and lesson plans that incorporate the music of composers of color. This site will be continually updated with more resources for music theory instructors.

Inclusive Early Musicology

A bibliography compiled by Bob Kendrick.

Non-European Musical Cultures

The purpose of this document is to create a freely accessible resource for those teaching music history who want to include information about musical practices outside of Europe during the European Middle Ages and early modern period. To keep this document a manageable size, I’m suggesting that ‘early music’ means anything before 1600 CE, but some of the readings here stray beyond that date. Some items appear under more than one heading. Please add any bibliographic items or other resources that you think relevant. Most of what is here is music-related, but feel free to add anything that relates to literature, dance, sound, performance etc.

Race and Early European Music--A Resource

The purpose of this document is to create a freely accessible resource for those teaching music history who want to decenter their early music curriculum by engaging with questions of race in early European music. To keep this document a manageable size, I’m suggesting that ‘early music’ means anything before 1600 CE, but some of the readings here stray beyond that date. Some items appear under more than one heading. Please add any bibliographic items or other resources that you think relevant. Most of what is here is music-related, but feel free to add anything that relates to literature, dance, sound, ritual, performance etc.
