The documents listed below under the Documents box reside on the University of Pittsburgh's Archive of European Integration (AEI). AEI is a free to everyone electronic repository and archive for research materials on the topic of European integration and unification. Its focus is the post-War development, activities, and foreign relations of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), the European Economic Community (EEC), the European Community (EC), and the European Union (EU).
In the Documents section below, both Key Documents and Chronological Documents are selected as representative documents from Political Union. Both Annuals and Series Tabs include all such documents on the AEI.
It is clear that, in the history and development of what is now the European Union, there has been a greater willingness by Member States to give Community institutions more power in the economic than in the political realm. Certainly Political Union already exists in the Community to a degree. But those advocating "more" Political Union desire a Community government with increased political authority over Member States.
