The North American Industry Classification System, or NAICS, uses six-digit codes to identify industries in order to collect, analyze, and publish statistical information about them. You'll see NAICS codes used to define a company's activities and provide industry data.
Don't forget to look at the company's website! Companies often provide information about organizational values, management, and strategy in annual reports and on investor relations pages.
You can find engineering companies by searching the American Council of Engineering Companies Member Directory. You can search by company location, disciplines offered, markets served, size of the company, or where the firm is working. Once you find a company that fits your search criteria, check out its webpage to find annual reports and investor relations information.
Company profiles often include an overview of the company, major products and industries, and financial information. The company profiles in the databases below each have their strengths and weaknesses, and gaining a full understanding of the company may require reviewing multiple resources.
Search by company name. Once results load, click on "company profiles." It is helpful to know the full company name, such as "H.J. Heinz"
Company histories, financials, and more. Limited data on private companies is available. NOTE: Be sure to select the check-box to include private companies if your company is not public. Due to the nature of private companies, limited information is available for them.
Find news, academic journal articles, trade publications, and more for your company using the resources below.
To refine company search results, filter the results by the type of publication/resource you are interested in using the radio buttons at the top of the page.
1. Once you are in the database, select “Power Search” (on left)
2. Next to "Index Terms" click on COMPANY
3. In the pop-up box, enter the company name.
4. Select correct company name from list. (select “view corporate structure” if unsure)
5. Click red “ok--add to search”
