Scholarly publishing is an ongoing cycle by which research and scholarly writing are created, evaluated, disseminated, and preserved. The library has resources to support you at every stage of this process, and if you ever have any questions, you can always Ask Us!
Creation
The library supports different methods of data collection and creation, including GIS and maps, web scraping, and text mining and analysis. We can also help you learn about data management and use optical character recognition (OCR) to convert images to readable text.
Evaluation
To learn more about the peer review process, visit the Peer Review page of this guide.
Publication
This guide provides useful tools to help you choose a venue for publication and information on the journal publishing process.
Dissemination and Access
To learn more about making your research open access, which can have a positive effect on visibility, engagement, and citations, visit the Open Access page of this guide. The Data Sharing guide includes information on the principles and mechanics of sharing research data. The library also has research guides and other resources on measuring the impact of your research using traditional bibliometrics or altmetrics and managing your research profile.
Preservation
D-Scholarship@Pitt is the University of Pittsburgh's institutional repository and provides stable, long-term storage for research outputs including published or unpublished research papers, conference papers and presentations, research data, electronic theses and dissertations, and more. The Electronic Theses and Dissertations Support Guide has information on how to submit your research to D-Scholarship@Pitt, as well as tips for formatting your document correctly.
