STEM workers are those employed in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics occupations.
Historically, women have been underrepresented in these fields. According to a Census Bureau report, 26 percent of STEM workers were women and 74 percent were men in 2011 (Source: Disparities in STEM Employment by Sex, Race, and Hispanic Origin).
