Women in STEM Resources @ Pitt

This guide is designed to assist those researching women in STEM -- Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics -- and related topics.

What is STEM?

STEM workers are those employed in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics occupations.

In 2019, there were nearly 10.8 million workers in STEM occupations, according to Census Bureau estimates. Women made up approximately 27% of this group, but men continued to dominate the field at approximately 73%. (Source: Women Are Nearly Half of U.S. Workforce but Only 27% of STEM Workers).

The articles, books and websites including in this guide are a sampling of what is available on issues, research and history of women with STEM careers. For tips on locating additional items held by University of Pittsburgh libraries, go to the Find More Resources page.
