This guide is designed to provide selected high-quality resources for those interested in the Middle East and North Africa. It features individual country pages as well as sources searchable by topic or country.

This LibGuide is designed to provide you with scholarly, high-quality print-based and web-based resources about the Middle East.

It also identifies major national and international resources. The information included here is not all inclusive and  should be treated as starting points for your research.  The tabs at the top of the page will connect you to categories of resources and information.

What Do You Need To Do?

Focus a Topic Consult your textbook, your assignment guidelines, or your professor for appropriate topics.  Our "Developing a Research Topic" tutorial may be of helpful.

    Choose a Database and Find Material  Use the "Databases" or the "PITTCat+" tabs above. 

    Find a Book Use the "Books" or the "PITTCat+" tabs above.

    Find Country Specific Resources Use the "Resources by Country"  tab above.

    Find Country and Regional News or RSS Feeds Use the "News" or "RSS News Feed A - L" or "RSS News Feed M - Z" tab above.

    Find Organizations (NGOs/IGOs) and Web Resources  Use the "Web Resources"  tab above.

        What is the Middle East?

        The Middle East refers to a set of countries located in North Africa, the Persian Gulf region, and Southwest Asia.  These countries differ immensely geographically, politically, socially, economically, and culturally.  However, they are collectively referred to as the "Middle East" because of their proximity to each other. 

        Broadly, the Middle East encompasses the following areas:

        This guide includes both general Middle East resources and by country resources of external web resources.  Individual country pages include links to general history and culture related websites, as well as news resources and official government websites.
