You can use your ORCID profile to automatically claim publications in Elements. Just set up the link between the profiles in Elements by following these steps:
The video below walks you through the steps to connect an ORCID ID to Elements.
Once authenticated, the ORCID identifier will show in your profile and will be included in source-specific search terms for finding publications across the web. This will help the Faculty Information System (Elements) find your publications and connect them to you more easily, especially when you use your ORCID identifier for your publications and grants.
You can allow Elements (FIS) to edit your ORCID record to "write" new publications information to your public ORCID record. This is optional and has a few parameters.
To access the ORCID write option, navigate to the ORCID settings page in Elements (Menu -> My Account -> ORCID settings).
If you have already claimed an ORCID ID in Elements, you will see it on this page. Otherwise, you will be given the option to claim an ORCID ID. You may be asked to authenticate your ORCID ID, so have your ORCID username and password ready!
Once enabled and authenticated, users will have three options:
If you select the first option -- "Read from and write publication data to my ORCID account" -- there are three potential options for you to control what information gets sent from Elements to your ORCID account.
Once you make you choice, click "Run Sync" to start the process.
If you wish, you can remove all the publications in your ORCID account that have been sent from Elements. This is achieved by selecting the ‘Remove from ORCID’ link. If selected, the ORCID settings page will be frozen pending deletion of the publications. Following deletion, your integration settings will be reset to ‘read data from my ORCID account' and no further publications will be sent to ORCID unless this setting is changed.
The University of Pittsburgh offers Elements, also called the Faculty Information System, as a tool to help Pitt researchers collect, organize, and report their publications, presentations, teaching activity, grants, and more. For an introduction to Elements, visit Pitt IT's Getting Started with Elements resources.
ORCID interacts with Elements in two ways to help you curate and share your research work: via Automatic Claiming, and via Elements Write to ORCID. Learn more about each of these below.
