Global Health Resources @ Pitt: Getting Started

This guide is a starting point for research in the multidisciplinary field of global health. It includes resources with medical, socioeconomic, political, cultural, and environmental perspectives.

What is Global Health?

Global health is a multidisciplinary and collaborative field that embraces transnational research and action to promote health equity for all.  The field of global health includes socioeconomic, environmental, and cultural factors which may directly or indirectly affect health matters.

How Do I. . .

. . . find sources for my research?

Starting your research can be tough, but these pages can help you along the way.  If you get stuck at any point, talk to a librarian.  Librarians can save you time and work by pointing you toward the best sources of information for your topic.

. . . find books on my topic ?

Search PITTCat+ to find a variety of books and resources for your research. 

. . . find articles on a topic?

The ULS has access to millions of full-text articles online through the ULS Databases.

. . . find newspaper sources?

Newspapers will have timely international news - both from an American perspective or a foreign viewpoint. Click the link or the "News Sources" tab above for some databases that include international news sources. 

. . . find data or statistics?

There are many sources for data and statistics related to global health. Click the link or the "Data and Statistics" tab above for some suggestions and descriptions of relevant sources.  

... make an effective search strategy?

Learn more about keyword searching and linking words.

. . . know if a source is "scholarly" or "peer reviewed"?  

Most instructors ask student to use “peer reviewed” or “scholarly” sources for assignments.  Learn how to recognize when an information source is scholarly.

. . . get help with writing and citing sources?      

You must properly cite all sources to avoid plagiarism.  Learn how to cite sources and create a bibliography.
