Brainstorm - Map - Search

  1. Using major concepts for your topic, brainstorm synonyms and related terms.
  2. Map, or list, related terms together. This list might expand and contract as you progress in your search. This map might be a simple list, a highlighted list, or intersecting circles.
  3. Search one term from each of the major concepts in one of the library's education related databases (see the "Locating Articles & More" tab).

Example--Something to do with whether eBooks advance or hinder emergent literacy.

Brainstorm - Map - Search

     children        eBooks  emergent literacy
early learners        print books  cognitive development
     toddlers       language
     emotional intelligence reading

I would combine the following terms in a search in Academic Search Premier:   children     eBooks     "emergent literacy".

If I do not find enough relevant articles, I would likely change or drop one of the terms.
