What is the Instructional Design Specialist Track?

Who We Are
We are ULS librarians and staff with interest and expertise related to instructional design. There are many things to consider when developing effective instruction sessions, and we strive to identify and share best practices in the hopes of building the capacity for high-quality information literacy instruction at the ULS.

What We Intend to Do
Through our work as a specialist track, we intend to explore teaching philosophies that will support excellence in education at the University. We plan on focusing our initial efforts in a number of different areas, including:

  • identifying learners’ needs
  • developing learning goals for instruction sessions
  • creating effective lesson plans that connect the learners’ needs with those learning goals
  • determining effective assessment strategies for instruction sessions.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, we intend to provide two deliverables:

  • …a series of workshops that touch upon the essentials involved in designing effective instruction sessions. These workshops will be led by both ULS and non-ULS experts within the field of instructional design.
  • …a toolkit (this LibGuide!) that can be used by all ULS librarians and staff that focuses on resources, tips, and examples that can be drawn upon when considering your instruction sessions.

What We Can Do for You
We’re your connection to resources for everything related to instructional design. Ready to switch things up in your instruction sessions or want a fresh pair of eyes to review your existing instruction plans?  Reach out to our track for individual consultations using our email distribution list: ULS – Instruction Design Specialist Track.
