Brainstorm - Map - Search

  1. Using major concepts for your topic, brainstorm synonyms and related terms.
  2. Map, or list, related terms together. This list might expand and contract as you progress in your search. This map might be a simple list, a highlighted list, or intersecting circles.
  3. Search one term from each of the major concepts in one of the library's education related databases (see the "Locating Articles & More" tab).

Example for Danielson 2a - The classroom Environment: Establishing a Culture for Learning

My question related to Danielson 2a is, "Are children's books of value for helping children develop empathy and respect for others (a key for "establishing a culture for learning)?

Brainstorm - Map - Search

     empathy        children's literature      young learners
     respect        picture books      children
     civility       children's books      elementary students
     emotional intelligence

I would combine the following terms in a search in Academic Search Premier:   empathy     "children's literature"     "young learners".

If I do not find enough relevant articles, I would likely change or drop one of the terms.
