Plagiarism

text, image, video, and audio plagiarism

(prepostseo.com, 2019)

"What is plagiarism?"

Plagiarism is a form of stealing- stealing someone else's work, research, or findings and acting as if it belongs to you.

"Why is plagiarism important to me?"

When you write papers or create presentations, you must create a brand new document of your own efforts.

If you copy someone else's work, you are stealing and disrespecting their work, expertise, and efforts, not to mention taking credit for it.

As a student, you violate your academic integrity if you plagiarize, affecting your standing.  It can become a legal issue, as well.

"What is an example of plagiarism?"

Copying and pasting pieces of a book, article, or someone else's homework is plagiarism, especially if you fail to cite your source.

Rewriting someone else's work, even in your own words, is also plagiarism.

"How do I avoid plagiarizing?"

When you perform research, draw your own conclusions and then put them into your own words.

Also, always cite the source of the work from which you are drawing these new conclusions!

Copyright

(techrepublic.com, 2019)

"What is copyright?"

Copyright involves the legal publication of a work; book, article, song, artwork, photograph, etc.

Copyright declares ownership over who owns the work and what can be done with the work.

"Why is copyright important to me?"

Copyright is important to everyone because:

  • you must credit the creator of a work
  • it is honest and respects the creator of a work
  • citing a copyrighted source protects you and allows the creator/owner to profit from their work

"How do I deal with material with a copyright?"

Do not copy or plagiarize the work.

Cite the source of the work!
