Ecological Art

Ecological Art Definition:

A current definition of ecological art drafted collectively by the EcoArt Network of International Artists, founded in 1998, is: "Ecological Art is an art practice that embraces an ethic of social justice in both its content and form/materials." Ecological art also addresses politics, culture, economics, ethics and aesthetics as they impact the conditions of ecosystems.

Search Techniques

Write a list of search terms

  • Before you begin searching create lists of keywords that describe your topic.
  • Use a thesaurus to stimulate your word choice and to generate synonyms for the concept

Document your search

  • Once you begin searching, document what is returned by your first query.  Scan the summaries of these results for related terms that will help you refine your keywords. 

Subject Headings

Subject headings are a set of terms or phrases that classify materials.  To perform a subject search using one of the subject headings listed below, follow these steps:

  1. Go to homepage
  2. Click the PittCat Classic tab
  3. Select Subject Heading from the dropdown menu
  4. Enter "Ecosystems" for example 
  5. Click Enter
