In this module, attendees will learn the basics of how to effectively keep data safe. There will be a discussion of preservation concerns, including issues with both electronic and analog data and security risks. The majority of the lesson will be spent reviewing recommended best practices for keeping data secure, including the LOCKSS model and file format recommendations. The lesson will also include an emphasis on resources available to Pitt researchers, including references to modules on active data storage, D-Scholarship@Pitt, and the University Archives.
