Microforms, Government Documents, and Maps @ Pitt: Viewing and Scanning Microforms

This is a guide for finding and using the microform, government document, and map collections located in Hillman Library.

Overview

Hillman Library has a microform viewer and scanner available in the Digital Scholarship Commons. Patrons can either email their scans or save them to a usb drive. 

Microforms staff are available by appointment to assist users with the microform viewers.

Microform Readers

Scan Pro 2000

  • The Scan Pro 2000s make high resolution scans of film, fiche, and microprint.
  • There are 2 Scan Pro 2000 microform viewers/scanners.
  • There is also spot editing capability for image adjustment.
  • Variable scan size

 

Cannon 300 

  • There is 1 Cannon 300 microform reader.
  • It uses Capture Perfect software for scanning film and fiche.
  • The Cannon 300 does not have microprint scanning capability.
  • There are basic editing capabilities.
  • Scans sizes are 8 1/2 x 11 and 8 1/2 x 14
