Find Non-Profit Profiles
Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status are required to file Form 990, Return of Organizations Exempt from Income Tax, with the IRS. The form includes financial statements and background information on the nonprofit, including salaries of key employees (i.e. director, head, officers).
Access to these reports must be provided during regular business hours. All 990 Form information is available from the nonprofit or the IRS. Most are available on the Web through these sites:
Find Company Profiles
Look up a NAICS, SIC, or DUNS number.
Business Source Complete
Search by company name. Once results load, click on "company profiles." It is helpful to know the full company name, such as "H.J. Heinz"
IBISWorld Industry Reports cover over 700 industries in the United States as categorized by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Enter an industry or NAICS Code then click on key statistics.
Financial data. Limited data on private companies is available. This is available ONLY if you select to include private companies in your search.
NOTE: due to the nature of private companies, limited information is available for them.
Use the search box labeled "Get Company Info" to look up a company. This database will often pick up smaller companies.
Sports Market Analytics
Focuses on the sporting goods and sports marketing industry; provides a continuously updated resource featuring market research and industry news covering all facets of the industry. Previously called SBRnet.
Find Private Company Profiles
These online databases contain profiles on private and public companies. The private company information is limited but may include sales and employment estimates or reported data.
**To search for private companies in this database you must check the small box labeled "D&B Private Companies."**
Search under "Get Company Info" to pull up a company dossier.
When information cannot be obtained by any of the above methods, use Google to search for private company websites or information.
