Visual Materials

There are over 2,000 items of Chinese visual materials in the EAL Chinese collection. Most of them are Chinese feature films. There are also some documentaries on Chinese history, language, and culture.

Browse PITTCat+ to see what Chinese movies and TV programs we have collected. Here are the steps you can take to generate the list.

  • Go to Advanced Search by clicking "Advanced" next to the main white search box.
  • Under "Content type," chose "Video Recording," then click on "Search."
  • On the left side of the search results page, under "Language," choose "Chinese."

To generate a list of Chinese videorecordings from PITTCat Classic:

  • Chose the "Keyword search" feature
  • Click on "Limit your search" in the lower right corner.
  • Under "Language," chose Chinese
  • Click on "Set Search Limits."
  • Put "videorecording" in the search box.
  • Click "Search."

The ULS also provides access to Kanopy, a streaming video service. Check out a list of Kanopy's Chinese language films. You must be logged in to your MyPitt account to use this service.

ULS patrons may also access Ethnographic Video Online, a streaming video database focused on ethnography, which contains some documentary on groups in China
