The Human Library® "works to create a safe framework for personal conversations that can help to challenge prejudice, aim to help rid discrimination, prevent conflicts and contribute to greater human cohesion across social, religious and ethnic divisions."

Our inaugural The Human Library @Owen event provides the opportunity for the Pitt-Johnstown campus community (students, faculty, and staff) to talk with and learn from people of different backgrounds and identities through friendly dialogue in a safe environment. Several wonderful folks from the greater Johnstown area have volunteered as Human Books to share their lived experiences with participants in small-group conversations of 1-7 Readers.

We feel these open and honest conversations can lead to greater acceptance, tolerance, and social cohesion on our campus and beyond.
