Genealogical and Family History Resources @ Pitt: Church and Synagogue Records

This guide provides an overview of genealogical and other family history resources available at the Archives & Special Collections and Hillman Library.

Searching Church Records

The extensive list of church and synagogue records at the Archives & Special Collections are full of valuable information, including birth records, baptismal records, burial records, marriage records, and other information that can really shed some light on your family history. The majority of records for these houses of worship that are held at the A&SC are on microfilm, and can be viewed in our Reading Room. This page includes a list of all of our church and synagogue records, arranged by denomination, with links to each church's finding aid. The finding aid lets you know what kind of records we have for that specific congregation. Please contact us for further information or if you are interested in making a visit.

Roman Catholic Churches

Records for Roman Catholic churches in Pittsburgh are held by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh in their Office for Archives and Record Center. Please visit their website for more information on how to contact them and use their records. Archives & Special Collections has a few materials that may be of use.
