Special Collections has a number of facsimiles of codices available for research. A facsimile is a copy or reproduction of an old book, manuscript, map, art print, or other item of historical value that is as true to the original source as possible. Depending on the quality of the facsimile, the scale, color, condition, and other material qualities are replicated as much as possible to the original.

The Special Collections Department collects and preserves an amazing array of materials including incunables, early rare books that pre-date 1850, important illustrated or engraved works, fine bindings, and many more. Anyone may visit the Special Collections Department to consult with the Department’s expert staff, who are happy to assist researchers in examining the rare and unique materials within our collections.
