Emerging Markets - BRICS & CIVETS Resources @ Pitt (Brazil, India, Russia, China, South Africa & Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa and more ...): Data and Statistics

This guide is designed to provide selected high-quality resources for those interested in emerging market economies. It features individual country pages as well as sources searchable by topic or country.

Statistical Web Sources

Most country and city data comes from offical government websites of the city or country, or from statistical abstracts and handbooks of the individual country.

International organizations and databases generally provide only country level data. Listed below are a few good web sites for reliable links to statistical sources.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar is often helpful for finding scholarly articles on your topic.

If you are on-campus, you will be able to view articles located in databases leased by the university. If you are off-campus, you may need to access the articles through remote access. See the instructions for connecting from off-campus on the ULS homepage.

Guide to Finding International Statistics

When researching international statistics it is helpful to know what kind of statistics you need and what organizations collect that data.

For a single country (or city data) check the country's statistical abstract. When comparing multiple countries, it is best to get all similar data from the same source. Use the PDF's table to determine who collects the type of data you need.
