Maps & Atlases @ Pitt Archives: Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad

Tips for using the maps and atlases available in Archives & Special Collections

Description

The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Company Records held by Archives & Special Collections document the management and operation of the company throughout its long history, from around 1850 to 1999. These materials contain information about Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad (P&LE), as well as the various branch lines that, along with P&LE, were controlled by the New York Central Railroad System from 1883 until 1968, and later by Penn Central from 1968 until 1970. Although one series of this collection (Series XIV) contains maps related to the activities of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Company and its associates, there are also a substantial number of other track maps scattered throughout the collection as part of various engineers' reports. More detailed information about this collection is available online through our Finding Aid.
